Turtles & More
$125 per rider
Enjoy a moderate ride, on local roads and some bicycle lanes, to the best Green Sea Turtle viewing spot on the Big Island.
Our local guide takes you north of Kailua Village to elevations up to 400 feet for great views of the Kona shoreline and Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park before dropping down to Honokohau Harbor and Alula Beach. There, we have a great chance of seeing multiple local "Honu" (Green Sea Turtles) basking in the sun or relaxing in the shallows of the Aiopio Fish Pond. You can swim and snorkel at this location. Of course, you can just be an observer at the beach stop, you are not required to get wet.
This is a great ride to get pictures of our Honu and also to take a nice walk on the beach or go for a dip in the calm waters. Water shoes or "slippahs" (flip-flops) are recommended here. It is possible to catch a glimpse of a Tiger Shark in Honokohau Harbor.
This ride is about 12 miles round trip and includes some hills and riding in local traffic. We recommend this tour for moderately experienced riders. Towels, snorkel gear, and carry cinch-sacks are available for rental. Reef-safe sunscreen and rain ponchos are available for purchase.
